Airtel Money: Airtel partners with Total to offer Mobile Payment for Fuel

Customers to purchase their fuel conveniently through Airtel money at any Total service  station

Customers can also deposit and withdraw cash from any of the Total service stations countrywide

Airtel Money is now offering its customers more convenience through an innovative partnership with Total that will see its customers pay for fuel, lubricants, car wash, car service and even goods through Airtel Money. Customers can also register for Airtel Money, deposit cash, withdraw cash as well as pay for their utility bills at the Total petrol stations.

Each Total service station will be set up with a unique paybill business name that the customer will use to purchase goods and services.

Alexis Vovk, the Managing Director of Total Kenya said, “Total is Kenya’s leading oil company with a countrywide network of more than 174 service stations. We are continually innovating and improving our facilities and services for our customers to help meet their motoring and personal needs.”

‘At Total we recognize  that the majority of our customers lead busy lives and need faster and more convenient ways of dealing with fuel purchases, buying goods, drawing cash and paying bills. The Airtel Money facility at Total service stations will be a significant benefit for both Total and Airtel Money customers,” added Alexis Vovk.

The service is readily available at Total outlets in Nairobi, Kisumu, Mombasa, Nakuru and Eldoret. Airtel Customers can access the service by choosing the Airtel Money menu on their phones and choosing the make payments option. They will then select pay bill, others and then enter the Total Business paybill number that will be provided by the attendant at the Total petrol station. The customer will then proceed to enter the amount, the PIN and the reference number which is their car registration number. The customer will then receive a confirmation text message on completion of this process.

Airtel Kenya managing director Mr. Shivan Bhargava emphasized that Airtel believes in the provision of affordable, innovative and relevant solutions to its customers, making it easier for them to achieve more. He explained that since the process is fully automated, payments are reflected almost in real-time thus providing customers a fast and more secure mode of payment.

He added that the company will also put emphasis on the educating its customers on the benefits of using mobile commerce solutions on Airtel Money to put money in more hands.


Airtel Money currently has more than 9,500 agents countrywide and the number is expected to grow by more than 15,000 by the end of the year. The vast dealer network has now been further complimented by corporate agents to enhance availability and reliability of the services countrywide. These include Posta, Uchumi Supermarkets, Pep Intermedius (Nakumatt), Tuskys, Muramati Sacco, Housing Finance and Cooperative Bank. Customers can also withdraw money from their Airtel Money accounts at any Pesa Point and Family bank ATMs countrywide without needing an ATM card giving Airtel Money a strong countrywide presence to the benefit of its customers.
