Tackling M-PESA Fraud together - a game of whack-a-mole

It is safe for a merchant to be paid with M-PESA and also safe for the buyer to pay with M-PESA – which is a push payment system. On the merchant side the advantage is that the buyer is sending the money,so there is essentially no risk of NSF,or non sufficient funds – M-PESA payments can’t “bounce”. Furthermore, when a customer pays a merchant with M-PESA, the transaction is initiated by Safaricom which knows that its end party has money. On the buyer’s side, the advantage is that no one can initiate a transaction on your behalf,as it is the case with credit cards. Other types of fraud, of course, are still possible.
