Kenyans Lead the World in Readiness To Adopt Mobile Payments Technology

Kenyan consumers lead the world in readiness to accept mobile payments technologies, according to the MasterCard Mobile Payments Readiness Index.

The mastercard Mobile Payments Readiness Index is a data driven, quantitative survey of the global mobile payments landscape. It gauges the global markets’ preparedness for mobile payments in three varieties: mobile at point of sale (POS), mobile commerce (m-commerce), and person-to-person funds transfer (P2P).

According to the research, Kenyan consumers' very high levels of familiarity with and frequent usage of mobile payments make them the the top scorer in the world on the Consumer Readiness component.

In Kenya, due to the popularity of M-PESA 89 percent of Kenyans are familiar with mobile P2P payments and 68 percent are frequent users.
